Not your class?

From 1.8 million judged lifts to one percentile

  1. Take only judged lifts. Every row is an attempt performed on a competition platform in front of three referees. Anything from a phone, a survey or a training log is not in the archive at all.
  2. Drop equipped lifts. Raw only — no squat suits, no bench shirts. A suit is worth tens of kilos and would silently inflate every figure on the page.
  3. Count each lifter once, at their best. Somebody who competes twenty times is one data point, not twenty, so the curve is a population of people rather than a population of meets.
  4. Split by sex and 5 kg bodyweight class, then by age band. A lift is a different achievement at 60 kg and at 120 kg, so a single national average would be an average of two different questions.
  5. Sort the class and read off the 99 cut points. Your percentile is the position of your lift in that sorted list — not a score, a rank against named people.
  6. Publish nothing thin. A slice with fewer than 500 lifters is not given a page: its tails would be noise dressed as a standard.

Masters lifters compete in their own divisions, and the data shows why. Age here is age at the meet.

Age bands pool every bodyweight, so they answer "how does age move the number", not "what should a 45-year-old at this exact weight lift".

The top of this class

The heaviest judged raw deadlift in the archive at 97.5–102.5 kg is Lydia Hantke at 275.0 kg (606 lb), lifted at 98.9 kg bodyweight — 1.90× this class's median. Percentiles on this page stop at the 99th on purpose; records are carried separately and always named.

Deadlift at 97.5–102.5 kg — common questions

What is a good deadlift for female lifters at 97.5–102.5 kg?

Above 145 kg (320 lb) puts you past the median of this class. The top fifth starts at 170 kg and the top 5% deadlift 195 kg or more. Those cut-offs come from 3,095 judged competition lifts, so they describe people who compete rather than the general gym population.

What is the average deadlift at 97.5–102.5 kg?

The median is 145 kg (320 lb) for female lifters — half of this class lifted less, half lifted more. The 25th percentile is 125 kg and the 75th is 165 kg.

How many times bodyweight is a good deadlift at this size?

The median woman in this class deadlifts 1.50× bodyweight. 1.90× is the 90th percentile and 2.00× the 95th.

How does that compare with men at the same bodyweight?

Men at 97.5–102.5 kg have a median deadlift of 238 kg, from 27,215 judged lifts.

Who these numbers describe. Everyone in this dataset entered a powerlifting competition. They are stronger than the general gym population, so a 50th percentile here is well above an average gym-goer — we would rather tell you that than quietly flatter you. Nobody has ever published a trustworthy random sample of what people lift in commercial gyms; what exists instead is app data that people type in themselves.
